Meet the Innkeepers
Bob and Karen Spencer are the innkeepers at Meritage Meadows Inn. We made the decision in 2008 to investigate opening a B&B. Bob was making wine in Woodinville
and we felt that the growth in the wineries around Woodinville meant that we could offer great lodging to wine tasters both near and far.
We began to look for a property that could be used as a B&B. It took nearly 9 months to find the property we finally settled on. We bid on the current Meritage Meadows Inn property in June of 2009, and Closed on the sale at the end of September 2009.
We began then to renovate the property and we are still at it. In May of 2010 we were able to open the inn to guests. The first year, it was very challenging to let potential guests know we were here. Although people travel from all over the world to stay with us, we find that our neighbors may still be in the dark about the inn. We frequently hear “there’s a B&B on Union Hill Rd?” and “I’ve been driving by the sign for years, and I always wondered what was back there.”
The property has just shy of 14 acres, the bulk of which has been in a Stewardship Conservancy with King County since 2011. We love sharing the natural beauty of NW Washington with our guests. There were many improvements that had to be made to meet regulations, but there ere many more needed to satisfy our customers.
Karen has a background in geology helping to study Earthquake Hazards. Bob worked as a Chemical Engineer in solar energy and medical device development for his career. Neither of these callings actually teaches you to run an inn. With the help of more than 10,000 guests, we have begun to understand what guests want. We hope that we will be able to meet your needs if you stay with us.
